State of
Beginning back on January 1,
2005, the Electronics Waste Recycling Act began requiring all companies to
collect a fee on certain purchases from
Devices currently affected
are all products that contain cathode ray tubes (CRTs) or liquid crystal
displays (LCDs) with a diagonal screen size greater
than 4 inches, such as monitors and notebook computers. The fees break
down as follows:
· $6 per device with a
diagonal screen size greater than 4 inches but less than 15 inches
· $8 per device with a
diagonal screen size equal to or greater than 15 inches, but less than 35
inches
· $10 per device with a
diagonal screen size of 35 inches or larger
The legislation is designed
to cover the increasing cost of recycling these devices. The new law applies to
